CAPE TOWN HOTSPOT: FIREFISH RESTAURANT [REVIEW]

If seafood tickles your pickle, and you love a good selection of wines when you dine, then the new Firefish restaurant is the place to be this summer! Recently launched in the heart of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, overlooking the harbour and with a backdrop of the ICONIC Table Mountain, this little gem has the atmosphere of an absolute Summers day bliss! And if dinner is more of a winner, then it is the perfect place to watch the sun go down, sippin’ on speciality cocktails while gazing into a canvas of the lit-up city lights. Think cosmopolitan living! Location, location, location is all I can say!

Crisp and fresh, Iona for the girls!

Now – let’s get to the good part. THE MENU!

Firefish have some sea-riously delicious menu picks. With enough choice, and a bite for everyone to enjoy, you can expect the widest selection, from seafood to land food, and even a special place on the menu for the vegetarians – you don’t see that everyday – yay! Did I mention the overflowing sushi selection, fresh from the ocean?

I had the absolute pleasure of tasting a few of the picks on the menu. A friend and I started the night off with a glass of cold and crisp Iona Sav Blanc. Super refreshing and ice cold to the pallet. That’s what Summers about, right?

We were then presented with freshly baked bread and butter to nibble on while we decided what to have for dinner. Of course, being a seafood lover, I just HAD to try the first thing that jumped out at me (besides the sushi) – crispy PRAWNS with garlic, lemon and Sichuan! These were delicious, but my absolute favourite of the starters that we ordered was the Tuna Tartar.

To start menu – crispy prawns with garlic, confit lemon, and Sichuan

MY, OH MY! I literally do not have words to describe the absolute beauty of what I tasted. It was like heaven on a fork – seriously! An avocado base with a tower of seared tuna, crispy shallots and the most delectable soy lime dressing. That experience in itself was just utter mouth-watering perfection! With an intro so delicious, it only made sense to order from the sushi menu – and that we did!

To start menu – Tuna tartar with avocado, crispy shallots and sesame soy lime dressing

We started off with the classics – because HEY, you can never go wrong with those, and boy were we right! The Salmon California Roll and Salmon Roses were up first. They were superb! One thing that really stuck out to me was the generous portion sizes. 8 pieces per order, except for the 3-piece Salmon Roses. One things for sure about those – they had me at Japanese mayo!

Sushi roses menu – salmon, avocado and Japanese mayo

The Signature sushi plates were up next, one of my favourites – The Ultra Phili roll. Think salmon, avocado and Philadelphia cream cheese all wrapped into one, and you have a winner!

Sushi Signatures menu – Ultra Phili with salmon, Philadelphia cream cheese and avocado

Something different, which I have never had before in the land of sushi is the Sushirito. Tempura prawn, avocado, Unagi, drizzled in spicy Japanese Mayo, for a delicate kick. Pair this with some pickled ginger, with a dunk of soya sauce, and you might just find yourself in heaven!

Sushi Signature menu – Sushirito with tempura prawn, avocado, spicy Japanese mayo and unagi

With everything being as delectable as it was, one of my favourites, was the much-anticipated sushi DONUT! Yes, you read that correctly. The sushi donut has made its way into town!

All the treats, without the sweets. This way, dessert lovers can still get away with not ordering off the sweet list. Shaped like a donut, and draped in salmon and avocado, with a sprinkle of salmon roe and sesame seeds, this was a super delicious way to end the night. Be prepared to eat this one with your hands. This donut has a way of getting down ‘n dirty.

Sushi signatures menu – Sushi Donut with salmon, avocado, salmon roe, sesame seeds and Japanese mayo

Although the “Happy Ending” menu has much to offer, from spiced carrot cake, cotton cheesecake to chocolate macaroon pie, we couldn’t possibly indulge in anymore deliciousness for one night. Don’t worry though, I have promised myself to pop down for coffee and a dessert of sorts to make up for it. I cannot tell you how excited I am to go back and enjoy this!

Admiring the view!

All in all, Firefish is an absolutely cracking restaurant! This is the perfect place to be this summer. A delectable menu, nested amongst the bustle of the Waterfront, with excellent friendly service and some sea-reously fresh food. It’s the PERFECT way to get the Summer time feels going! And yes, their fish is on fire!

Until next time,

HOSPITAL BAG ESSENTIALS

I cannot believe how quickly the last 9 months have gone and that the time is finally here to start packing my hospital bag! HOW EXCITITNG!

I thought I’d put together a list to show you what’s in my hospital bag for baby, daddy and me. Hopefully if you’re packing yours too, then this list will help. Yay!

Before you pack your baby’s bag, check with your hospital where you have planned to give birth, if they give you a complimentary baby bag. Most hospitals do, which is fabulous and makes life for new parents to be super easy. The goodies inside will be things like nappies, wipes, baby powder (literally the best smelling thing on earth!), a hospital beanie, shower gel (for mum), breast pads (for mum) and maternity pads (for mum). If not, then you need to add these things into your hospital bag.

FOR BABY:

  • Number one on the list is your tiny tot’s car seat! You cannot drive your new bundle home from the hospital without it!
  • About 3 baby onesies/baby grows – front fastening ones are the best and easiest to slip on and off your tiny tot
  • About 8 – 10 nappies made for newborn’s (Huggies has great ones with a little cut out specially designed for the umbilical chord)
  • Socks, mittens and a hat
  • Baby wipes
  • A fluffy, soft toy for cuddles
  • A cuddly, soft blankie
  • Dummy
  • Baby wipes (life saver)
  • A towel for baby’s bath time – sometimes the hospital ones can be scratchy
  • Burping towel
  • 2 x facecloths

FOR DAD:

  • A change of clothes (yes, we still need to remind men of the basics’!)
  • Clean underwear
  • ID document
  • Phone charger
  • Toiletries – deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, facewash (labour could be overnight)
  • Sweeties and snacks

FOR MOM:

  • Comfy pyjamas – a loose nighty is best
  • A few pairs of clean underwear (granny panties work best for maternity pads)
  • Maternity pads (yes, fun times lie ahead after labour)
  • Toiletries – deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, shower gel, facewash
  • Hairdryer (if you plan to wash your hair after labour)
  • Hair elastics (things get serious when your hair gets tied up!)
  • Slippers or comfy socks
  • Towel (hospital ones can sometimes be scratchy)
  • Earphones (maybe you feel like rocking some Bob Marley while you’re in labour)
  • Nursing bra
  • ID document, hospital forms, medical aid card
  • Flip flops (for the shower)
  • A change of clothes for leaving the hospital
  • Make up bag (if you have the energy to freshen up before you leave the hospital)
  • Charger
  • Sweeties and snacks

We can’t wait to meet our little girl!

Until next time,

MEETING YOUR BABY AT YOUR FIRST SCAN

This moment has to be one of the best and most exciting moments during the beginning stages of pregnancy! Finding out that there’s a little human growing inside your tummy and knowing that your body will be nurturing a tiny bean that will grow more and more every day really is an indescribable feeling. Whether your baby is a total surprise or planned, they are a complete and utter blessing!

After finding out you are pregnant, the best is to give your midwife/gynae/GP a call. From here, they will give you a date to come in for your first scan (dating scan). How EXCITING and so UNREAL! Your dating scan will generally take place at around 12 weeks. I remember when we booked the date for our first scan, I was around 8 weeks pregnant, and waiting for those extra 4 weeks to reach the date of our first scan seemed like a lifetime! All I wanted was to see our little baby in my tummy!

When the day for your first scan finally arrives and you know that you’ll be “meeting” your baby for the first time, an overwhelming amount of excitement and nerves kick in, well for me it did! Excitement because you’re about to actually see your baby for the first time and nerves because at this scan, they do all sorts of measurements and checks to make sure that your baby is growing properly, meeting the required measurements and is healthy. And let’s face it, we all want to know that we have a happy and healthy little bundle growing inside our tummies!

Your scan will normally be done by your midwife or gynaecologist. You’ll be asked to lie down on a bed with your tummy showing, while she squeezes ultrasound gel onto your belly. A small transducer (probe) will be placed and run along your tummy, which will project an image of your baby onto a screen in front of you. HOW EXCITING! This has to be one of the BEST feelings to finally see your little bundle right in front of you! There are so many overwhelming emotions that go along with seeing your baby right then and there.

This is a moment, with indescribable feelings of reality, bursts of excitement (when you finally see your baby moving around), a few seconds of fear, knowing that there is now a sense of responsibility, but also relief, when you get to see that everything is okay. Over all, you feel love, you feel appreciation and you totally feel the excitement, knowing that your body is beginning to do something so incredible and has managed to nurture, protect and grow something so small and pure up until this stage. Expect a few tears of happiness, and don’t be embarrassed or feel like you have to hide this from the sonographer – after all, this is your experience with your partner or whoever you decide to share this moment with.

The sonographer will be able to tell you in the moment if everything looks good and she will explain the different parts of your baby that she is examining. The best part? You get to take a print out of what your little bean looks like to stick up on your fridge or frame for an album.

Be prepared for even more excitement as your pregnancy progresses and your ultrasounds reveal a little more detail each time you go.

P.S seeing your baby suck his/her thumb in your tummy has got to be one of the cutest moments! I look forward to it every time!

Until next time,

BOOTY AND BEAUTY IS HAVING A BABY!

For most young couples, being the 23 and 24 year old type, and the lovebirds that happen to relocate themselves halfway across the world to meet up with travelling plans, a baby would seem to be the last thing on their minds, surely?

Parents to be!

Well my friends, in life, surprises happen, and this one seems to have been the best one yet! The thought of an itsy-bitsy dumpling, blossoming in my tummy was something that made me feel a little “OMG – IS THIS REAL?” and a little “OMG – WE ARE GOING TO BE PARENTS!!” and of course “OMG, IM GOING TO DOUBLE IN SIZE AND BE A HIPPO FOR 9 MONTHS!!”.

To cut a VERY long and complicated story short, my boyfriend is Scottish and I am South African. We both decided to go over to Scotland together from South Africa (where my boyfriend was on holiday for just under 2 years) to travel over the next 2 years. After one month of arriving in Scotland, we found out about our baby news – which happened to be RIGHT BEFORE Christmas (2016)!! It’s safe to say that Santa clearly had something else planned for us! None the less, after everything had settled, the excitement totally began to kick in – the flying kick type – the one with the extra oomph!

The bump date!

Apart from being in a foreign country, one of my first thoughts about trying to figure everything out was “OMG, WHAT DO WE DO NOW?” “WHO DO WE CALL?” “DO I GO TO THE HOSPITAL?” “DO I GO TO THE DOCTOR?”, “HOW DO I REGISTER AT A DOCTOR?”. There were endless amounts of questions that we had about what the next step should be. Basically, I was a tourist, fresh off of the plane, that had extra cargo in my tummy that I had absolutely no idea about!

After googling left, right, and center, we found a number for a hospital close by and gave them a call. At this stage I was about 6 weeks pregnant and had to wait until 12 weeks in order for them to see me and for us to have our VERY FIRST SCAN! Well, you guessed it, what a long 6 week wait that was!

Our baby is already so loved by her Dad!

I had 6 weeks of unanswered questions to get through before being able to see a midwife. “Can I drink coffee?”, “Can I dye my hair?”, “Can I eat sushi?”, “Can I have a hot bath?”, “Should I be taking extra vitamins?” –  SO. MANY. QUESTIONS. And no – Google wasn’t my friend. She seemed to just confuse matters more.

One thing that I will say is that morning sickness is a real thing, and feeling like a sick Sarah around Christmas and New Years’ time was something that I totally had to work with and take one day at a time – but none the less, I was growing a freaking human!! How CRAZY is that?

Mom to be!

If you want to find out the answers to all of my unanswered questions that I had 6 weeks to ponder about, make sure to keep your eyes out for my next post all about that!

P.S I cannot tell you how excited we are to meet our little girl.

Until next time,

BEAUTY THERAPY INSTITUTE PREGNANCY SPOILS

Last week, I was invited to the Beauty Therapy Institute in Woodstock for some pregnancy spoils and to celebrate the academy’s 21st birthday! You can only imagine the excitement of such adventures when an inflated beach ball seems to be your standard daily look for the last  8 months! A time to relax and be pampered could not have sounded better at the time! My pamper package included a back, neck and shoulder pregnancy massage, and a deluxe paraffin dip for both manicure and pedicure treatments.

BTI (Beauty Therapy Institute) is an actual college situated in the up and coming area of Woodstock, Cape Town. This college is in the Upper East Side building (fancy shmancy) and collaborates with Sorbet – one of the biggest beauty and wellness salons in South Africa. The BTI college actually trades under the name of Sorbet Cape Town – FYI! My favourite part is that the college has a beautiful mountain view from the practical training room where all of their delectable treatments take place – and everyone is SO FRIENDLY!

The first treatment that we started off with was the Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage – I mean, could this have been any more of a magical moment? Obviously when you are pregnant, lying on your not so deflateable tummy is totally off limits, so off to the side we rolled, lying on my left part of my body, and being covered by a blanket (because towels just don’t quite cover the proximity of a pregnant person’s circumference!).

BTI’S own massage cream! It smells like heaven!

Nicole, who gave me the most amazing massage was a total pampering goddess! I absolutely love deep tissue massages, but because there happened to be a growing human in my tummy, we had to lay off a bit of the pressure. Medium pressing was perfect and the relaxation mode was set. I totally had to remind myself that I had a student massaging me, even though it felt otherwise. My massage lasted just over an hour, and I completely almost fell asleep! I guess that is what happens when you’re pregnant and very relaxed! I loved hearing all of Nicole’s stories about her kids, and it was great to have something in common to chat about, which made me feel so comfortable – winning!

Once my massage came to an end, I had a Deluxe manicure with a paraffin dip and pedicure at the same time! Talk about multitasking! Paige gave me a super divine pedicure. She completely transformed my swollen piggy feet and made my hooves look way more presentable!

BTI’s very own foot scrub. It’s the perfect grainy exfoliant!

She used the BTI foot scrub, to remove dead skin cells and polish my trotters. The foot scrub smelt amazing – like fresh bubbles! I could also choose from an array of Sorbet nail colours for both my hands and feet. I went for a neutral selection of “Blush” for my feet and “Melting Moment” for my hands.

On the left we have Blush and on the right we have Melting Moment by Sorbet

While Paige looked worked her magic on my feet, Chelsea gave me a manicure and paraffin dip treatment which I had never had before. Basically, your paws get dipped into hot paraffin wax which creates a waxy coating. Your hands are then put into their own individual plastic coverings and then put into little mittens for a few minutes. Paraffin dips have so many benefits that I actually had no idea about. They increase blood flow, relaxes muscles and helps with joint stiffness AND can also be used to help treat arthritis!

After a few minutes, the dip was peeled off and Chelsea gave me a little hand massage using the BTI Massage Cream, which smells AMAZING – like candy! Once that was finished, she painted my nails with my chosen colour.

Blush by Sorbet

All in all, I had such a lovely time, spending the morning with these ladies. I absolutely love how friendly the students are and I have no doubt that they will make wonderful beauty and wellness therapists.

If you would like to find out more about the Beauty Therapy Institute, click here or view their Facebook page for more info. They have the highest standard of education in the health, beauty and skincare industry and are currently running a fantastic deal of 10% off all massage and holistic courses.

Until next time,

MY FAVOURITE 2-IN-1 LUSH CLEANSER AND MASK

It’s time to mask all things facial related! Yes, that means getting down to the bottom of those gnarly pores, blackheads, whiteheads and blemishes the natural way!

If you’re like me, you enjoy all things skin related. Facial masks are a regular, and of course, every day cleansing is a MUST! A happy face means a more confident you, and a confident Betty, means all the more reason to have those boys poreing (pun intended) their hearts out to you!

All natural, fresh ingredients!

I have been a regular user of normal store bought face washes, toners, moisturisers and everything in between, but since being pregnant, and after the extensive research that I have been doing about all the different chemicals that make up majority of these products, I have decided to opt for a more natural route of face bathing!

I have always had naughty skin, so much so, that at one point my spots were so uncontrollable that I had to resort to Accutane. If you know how bad Accutane is for the human body, then I hope that paints a clear enough picture of what my actual face was looking like at the time.

Since being pregnant, my skin has become more sensitive to harsh chemicals, which may be a good thing, since I have now switched over to using more of a natural range of products which I am totally enjoying. I can also totally pronounce all of the ingredients too, which is an added bonus!

The self preserving type is the best type!

Today, I am going to share my 2 favourite 2-in-1 all natural mask and cleanser with you. All organic. All natural. And all fabulous!

Up first, we have the Mask of Magnaminty . This tub brings more to the table than expected. It’s pretty much a 2 in one jar of awesomness! This peppermint mask can be used as a face or body mask and comes in two different sizes – a big tub and a baby tub.

The Mask of Magnaminty

This concoction is self-preserving, which means that it doesn’t need any synthetic preservatives (generally the ingredients that you can’t pronounce) to keep them fresh.

The freshness of peppermint oil and kaolin clay promote a feeling of tingliness and freshness. This mask is also great for redness of the skin (which I have) with its soothing vanilla properties. You can also enjoy a 15-minute moisture burst from the honey in the mask too. The consistency is spot on (excuse the pun) and thick which makes applying the mask to dry skin oh so easy.

Minty fresh!

My other current favourite from the LUSHious range of products is Angels On Bare Skin. This tub of goodness is frightfully heavenly. I will say that at first, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the smell, but after a few sniffs and wafts, I began to LOVE it! This might also be due to an over sensitive pregnancy snout. This product is a little different as it is not a mask, but rather a cleanser, both for the body and face – BINGO!

Angels on Bare Skin!

The consistency is crumbly with plenty of ground almonds, lavender and camomile oil. The lavender is super refreshing against unhappy skin and is an absolute skin savior with its disinfectant properties that help banish bacteria from the pores. How pore-fect!

To use this, simply scoop a few crumbles onto your hand and mix with a dash of water to make a paste. Massage this onto the face or body and rinse to have a smoothly cleansed face!

All of the crumbly goodness!

P.S I totally got my boyfriend to try the Magnaminty mask with me, and he secretly loved it. So come on girls, get your bubbly out and have a pamper night with your man!

Until next time,

Mycaila – Jade

SPLIT APART BY VISAS – OUR STORY

It’s not every day that you fall in love with a Scotsman who you’ve met in your home country on a wild night out.

It’s also not every day that you two quit your jobs and make plans to travel overseas together after dating for only THREE months.

And it CERTAINLY is not every day that you happen to find out 3 weeks after arriving in Scotland together that there’s a baby on the way!

It is however every day, that families are split apart by visas.

And it is also every day that all the plans that you two have together get put on hold while temporary plans are made, knowing that many months will be spent apart.

I am not complaining about this, I am simply stating facts about our little friend called “life”.  Life is weird. Life is unpredictable. It is also happy and sometimes it can be sad. Life can be fair and of course, something that the boyfriend and I are experiencing now – life can be pretty damn unfair at times. But alas, with life, we learn how to deal. Whether you’re dealing together or apart, you still just deal.

Smiles and flaring nostrils in Windsor!

When leaving Scotland to come home to South Africa to apply for my next visa, my other half and I said our goodbyes to each other. Trying to brighten a sad moment between ourselves, we kept saying that it’s “not for long” and that “I’d be back soon”, but of course there were tears. Airports can be such happy places, but also such sad ones too.

We already knew that it was a risk for me to be flying back to South Africa because of how far along I was in my pregnancy at the time, not knowing how long my next visa could take to be approved or not. The fact that the visa that I was currently on was the incorrect one to begin with wasn’t really working in our favour either, but we were only trying to fix our visa agency’s mistake.  We had 4 weeks to get my next visa sorted. This would take us to my last week of pregnancy where I would still be allowed to fly back on the airplane. We had everything planned and I flew home with all of our visa documents.

Fooling around at Loch Lomond Shores!

Those 4 weeks turned into 6 months. Yes, SIX whole months – for reasons that I choose to not explain, but let’s just say that we weren’t dealing with the brightest cookie in the jar via the visa agency.

Over the next 3 months, my other half will be missing out on my growing tummy – our growing tummy. He will be missing out on feeling our baby’s kicks, and watching our baby grow. He won’t be here for our baby scans, or be able to listen to our baby’s heartbeat at the check-ups.

Over the next 6 months, there will be no more night time cuddles or Sunday morning breakfasts together. He’ll have to start making his own packed lunches for work and doing his own laundry (always a huge deal for men). I won’t be there to welcome him home after a long day at work or spend our usual nights cooking dinner together in our kitchen.

A day of exploring in Edinburgh!

We have started our life together in Scotland. We have our own home. Our own space. Our own routine and independence.

We had it all planned that we would be having our baby in the UK. We had been going to regular midwife appointments and had met the lady who would be delivering our baby. Everything was comfortable and we had everything figured out.

It’s been a week since we have found out that we will be apart and things have settled. We have had to move forward from what we cannot change. We have had to re plan the birth of our baby, which will now be taking place in Cape Town and my other half has now planned to work plenty of over time to make up for the cost of us having to live double lives and to earn enough leave days to fly to Cape Town for the birth of our baby.

Our first rugby game together in Scotland!

There is a silver lining to every situation. One thing that we both need to remember is that this is all temporary and will be fixed with something more permanent. What I am learning is that there is no amount of distance that will keep us apart. There are always risks with the things that we do, and while living our little friend called “life”, these risks taken can sometimes have unpredictable consequences.

In “life”, regardless of the situation, with every challenge thrown our way, we always need to try our best to be positive and look at the situation from all angles. We are handed situations for a reason, but we just haven’t quite figured this one out yet.

Not only will this make us even stronger than what we are, this will also make us appreciate the time that we do actually spend together. At the end of the day, this is also a small sacrifice for a much bigger picture of our hopes and plans for our family.

Wintery mornings in London together!

P.S We have since gone with a new visa agency who we have full confidence in helping us going forward!

Until the next life update,

Mycaila-Jade

MOTHER’S DAY FACIALS WITH HEY GORGEOUS! [BAYSIDE MALL]

Firstly, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all the new mommies, grannies and god mommies out there! Today we celebrate all the years of putting up with tantrums, attitudes, and memories of laughter, love, surprises and everything else in between.

I for one know that I have given my mom grey hairs, an occasional wrinkle (not that she has many) and of course, I have been accountable for all the marbles that she has lost over the last 24 years. Apparently I WAS an absolute terror and my “terrible two’s” lasted all the way until I was 22!

With the excitement of becoming a new mom myself later in August this year, and realizing that I MIGHT have a Naughty Nelly of a child on my hands, I decided to treat my mom and myself to a Skin Evening and Brightening Facial at Hey Gorgeous (Bayside Mall) to celebrate Mother’s Day and hopefully reverse all those years of stress and apparently the odd “wrinkle” that I caused.

Atlantic Sea Kelp & Brown Rice Cleansing Powder looking dashing!

We started off with the Atlantic sea kelp & Brown rice cleansing powder for a pre cleanse and skin polishing, you know for all the years of stress. This mask was left on our skin for 1 minute and was then massaged in with a cleansing brush. While this mask was getting to work we could totally feel our faces tingling and our  skin was already feeling so much happier! After that, our masks were wiped away with warm water.

Step 1: Looking a little like Shrek in my Sea Kelp Cleansing Mask

The Peach and Rosehip seed cleanser was applied next. This cleanser smelt amazing! There were whiffs of maple syrup and orangey wafts of deliciousness, and not to mention the subtle sweetness of the peaches in the air! While the snouts were enjoying these smells, our faces were having this concoction massaged in with the cleansing brush.

The Peach & Rosehip seed Cleanser and the Vitamin C Toner posing for pictures together!

After that, our moment of heaven was wiped way with the Vitamin C Toner, which is superb for an instant burst of freshness, and helps with collagen production to fight those wrinkles (yet again, for you Mother and all those years of torture) and of course ensures evenness in the skins tone and texture.

Step 2: My mom looking all happy and enjoying the cleansing brush!

The Goji Berry Face Mask was lathered onto our faces next, and that was it, we arrived at our next moment of heaven! Believe me when I say that this smelt more amazing than your grandma’s baked apple pie, and of course has less calories too!!!

The Goji Berry Face Mask with REAL bits of berry in it!

The mask was massaged in with a sponge brush which was so soft and helped penetrate those pores. This was left to work its magic over the next 5 min for those everlasting years of “terrible 2’s” before being wiped away with water and soft cotton pads. Our faces felt softer than your average baby’s bottom (not that I have felt many) and I could feel instant relief from my chin area that was misbehaving with a breakout of super painful spots.

Step 3: There’s a berry on my face!

Goji berries are also fabulous for its anti-aging potential by plumping up those fine lines and hydrating tired skin. You can’t go wrong when evening primrose oil, shea, mango butter, green tea and honey are having an absolute party on your face! Talk about being pampered!

After being wiped away with water, the Vitamin C Serum (for age defying purposes) and the Skin Evening and Brightening Serum was massaged into our faces and left to sink into our skin, helping with moisture and yes, those little lines, yet again.

Step 4: Vitamin C Serum and Skin Evening and Brightening Serum

Afterwards, the Revitalising Eye Cream was applied around the eye area and was massaged in with a super duper magic wand that was heated up.

Step 5: The Revitalising Eye Cream and The Magic Wand

We finished off the treatment with the Skin Lightning & Brightening Moisturiser which helps correct the skin tone. And believe me when I say that this tub of awesomeness is the absolute tits! Wafts of Liquorice Root can be enjoyed by the snout as well as shea butter, coconut and jojoba oils which left my mom feeling like the Fabulous Fiona that she is! I also loved this moisturizer and thought that the entire treatment was to DIE for – even though I TOTALLY walked out there alive!

I absolutely love these products being all natural with no preservatives and have also recently found out that Hey Gorgeous now ship worldwide – how fabulous! There was such a friendly warm atmosphere in the room when having our facials done and we were made to feel right at home and treated with such happiness and had plenty of laughs at the Bayside Mall store. We absolutely loved our facials and I definitely cannot wait to go back and try out all the others.

Look at my mom, all happy and realizing that the last 24 years of torture from me have totally been worth this facial!

I am currently testing out their Belly Butter and Stretch Mark Healing Oil for my growing tummy and will be doing a full review on these once my little one has surfaced after August this year.

Alrighty ladies, head on over to your nearest Hey Gorgeous Store for your facials!

P.S There’s a 30% discount for all facials done on a Friday!

Until next time,

15 MIN SALMON & PRAWN RED CURRY [LOW CALORIE RECIPE]

My boyfriends mom totally introduced me to this bowl of hot authentic deliciousness and MY OH MY, is it worth every mouthful and heated runny snout. Last  night, myself and the boyfriend decided to get the Wok out and make this very dish ourselves, and I thought that I just HAD TO share this recipe with you guys! This is a super low calorie meal and has such a spicy kick to it. This meal literally takes 15 minutes to cook and is SO EASY to prepare and make – what a double whammy!.

INGREDIENTS

  • Fresh tender stream broccoli
  • Handful of whole sugar snap peas
  • 2 fillets of salmon (cut into chunks and de skin)
  • 1 x 200g pack of cooked prawns
  • 2 birds eye red chillies (chopped)
  • 1 heaped tablespoon red chilli paste
  • 1 tin coconut milk
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • Sprinkle of coriander

WHAT TO DO

Bring the heat to your kitchen, your taste buds and possibly your bottom with these super easy steps.

Fry your chopped chillies and red curry paste in 1 tsp of coconut oil on a high heat for a minute or two. Add half a tin of coconut milk and whisk together and let simmer on a medium heat for a couple of minutes . Add raw salmon chunks and the rest of the tin of coconut milk and leave to boil for about 2 min on a higher heat. Add your cooked prawns for another 2 minutes and  ½ cup boiling water for consistency. After that, add your broccoli and snap peas to the mix and let simmer to your desired crunch of veg (+-3 min).

Serve with a sprinkle of coriander and enjoy your low carb, low calorie curry!

LUSH 2017 EASTER RANGE

I hope you all put a Spring in your step this Easter with my Lush Easter Beauty Haul over Instagram. YES, these Lush treats should’ve had you bouncing about, so ears to hoping you had a superbly hoppy Easter. Today I will be going through my thoughts on these beauty bombs, so prepare yourself for a few funny yolks along the way, and make sure you look out for next years 2018 Easter range.

A few weeks ago, I was invited to attend the LUSH bloggers event at my local LUSH store, which was a complete honour! Right up until the last moment where I couldn’t make it because PREGNANCY got in the way. You know, some days are superb and others not so much. As you can imagine, I totally wanted to risk it, but you never know what to expect when there’s a little chick waiting to hatch. I had to unfortunately give the event a skip, but I still managed to get my hands on the new fun Easter range from LUSH.

First up, we have a BUNCH OF CARROTS BUBBLE BAR. These are SO CUTESY for some magic in the bathtub! What’s even better is that these carrots are reusable and can last for 30 baths in total between the collection – that’s 10 baths per carrot and a whole lot of bubbles. These are also fun for kids to use. Simply hold a carrot under the running tap, watch the bubbles pop and the water change colour! These also aren’t your average vitamic C carrots, just by the way. These bubble bars are rich with lemon, bergamot, and buchu oils to fill your tub with citrusy bubbles and scents.

Next, we have the GOLDEN EGG BATH BOMB. With explosions (literally) of glitter and cocoa butter, you’re guaranteed to come out looking all sparkly and feeling moisturised. This bomb melts in the bath and turns the water bright yellow – almost as if you’ve cracked an egg! This is a slow melting bath bomb and spins about dissolving in the water like a baked potato!

This next one is one of my favourites. It involves a bunny, and a squeaky clean face. Yip, it’s time to meet FLOPSY! This is a face cleanser or if we want to get technical, Flopsy is actually a face wash cleanser. How does it work, you may be wondering? Well that’s an easy one! Flopsy lives in a tub. Everytime you want to use your little jelly, all you need to do unsquish him out the tub, stroke over your face, or rub between your paws to get it frothy and create a lather. This is also the best smelling bunny in Town. Bergamot oils and zesty lemon will leave you feeling jolly with this jelly!

If you’re looking for a bigger bomb, then the CHICK ‘N MIX is perfect for you. This little (or rather large, actually) bomb is basically is 2 bombs in one – winning! Chick n mix is a fun mixture of half yellow and half blue with a little orange egg. They can be used together or for 2 separate baths, to make your bomb go further. This bomb is the perfect excuse to get chicky with it, with bergamot oils, tonke absolute and a few surprises in the bath.

My final bomb of the day is the “Which came first” egg. Plop this bomb into the bath to see whether the chicken or the egg surfaces first. It’s petty egg-straordinary if you ask me and smells just like Spring. If you’re looking for relaxation, then look no further. Scents of refreshing lemon and grapefruit oils are sure to make the water super soft and creamy.

Which came first?

I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter and that your Sunday was at the very least, a good hare day.

Until next time,

Mycaila-Jade
