ELIZABETH ARDEN BEAUTIFUL COLOUR LASH ENHANCING MASCARA (REVIEW)

8c80f130-8158-41c8-9632-ae74bbf6a065

I’m not entirely sure about you, but in my world, if your eyelashes are not branching out into the world looking all luscious and full of life, with ample amounts of volume then you might as well get straight back into bed, call it a day, and rethink your eyelash goals!

Yes, we have days when we really could not care about looking like a Ratchet Rascal with a make-up free face, but on those occasions when we do actually dress to impress, we should ALL want to be sporting a set of mighty fine lashes, sprouting from our eyeballs. You know, the type that will make the boys flock to our feet!

I have been using my Beautiful Colour Lash Enhancing Mascara from the Elizabeth Arden New Beauty Collection since Christmas last year (Santa was REALLY kind) and for the last month and a bit this has been my ABSOLUTE holy grail and my “go-to ” make up tool for a bit of a ‘bright eyed and bushy tailed” kind of look. Emphasis on the BRIGHT EYED part!

9a44765b-e2f6-4c67-b3b6-ac112924d88d

FIRSTLY, can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that the packaging is mainly gold. I mean, how fabulous, and is of a sturdy rectangular shaped tube with an easy to use twisty lid – always handy!

The consistency of this mascara is quite wet for the first few applications (as is any new mascara) but is absolutely brilliant at plumping up those lashes. Because of the wetness, the mascara is smooth and super easy to apply. Would you like to know the best part? You’ll be on the prowl sporting some clump free lashes! There is nothing worse than having clumpy lashes – it’s just not attractive, and should be frowned upon! The formula gives your lashes that extra bit of volume with longer length and a subtle bit of curling, but is completely flake and mess free!

3ec0aef7-a147-4d9d-9411-3647030ed645

I think we can thank the mascara brush for the clump free detail, Oh, and Elizabeth Arden too, of course. The brush has smaller bits of the wand which allows you to reach your shorter lashes on the inside of the eye, as well as on the ends! It is also a brilliant brush for plumping up those bottom lashes without any mess.

When doing my mascara in the mornings, I literally jump between different brushes to reach my shorter lashes but haven’t encountered such an issue while using this Wonderful Wand. I have a habit of reapplying my mascara quite a few times a day, but haven’t really found the need to do that with this one, UNLESS I’m out and about gallivanting straight from work into the night with the same face of make-up, which is of course, understandable.

The eyelashes at 11am.

The eyelashes at 6pm.

This mascara can be found at any Red Square or Edgars Stores (where Santa got mine) and retails for R220.00 each,

Well, what are you waiting for? I’m sure your eyelashes will thank you later, and be careful not to trip over the boys that will be flocking at your feet!

WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE 22

What’s it like to be 22 you ask? Well, good heavens, the early twenties are in fact mortifyingly confusing!!!

First things first, when you are of such an age, one doesn’t quite know if they’re in fact Arthur or Martha, Harry or Sally, or POSSIBLY even Mandy or Randy!! I mean which name does one even respond to when not knowing? My point is that we don’t exactly know who we are yet. We can be whoever we want to be, we can respond to whichever name we want to respond to and we can certainly put on our Brave Brenda Booties, invite Inquisitive Ingrid to the party and give them all a good try for that matter. That is until we figure it out…

Just a bunch of 22 year olds being weird!!!

Just a bunch of 22 year olds being weird!!!

With that being said, being 22 has a way of making you feel as though you are meant to have your life together, which is basically impossible, considering we barely even know our own names! At the moment, my logic of thought goes something along the lines of “I’m almost 23, which is so close to 25, which is BASICALLY a ¼ of a century and pretty much means that I’m almost 30 and should have my life together by now. I should be successful, know what I want out of life, be on the right track and possibly even be on the lookout for the right guy to eventually settle down and be jolly with.

Truth is, at 22, we are only just pipsqueaks. Pipsqueaks without a name to be exact. We are confused, don’t know who we are yet and are still trying to figure out what it is that we want out of life. We may think that we know, but we in fact probably don’t.

We like to be a Groovy Gretel at times too!!!

We like to be  Groovy Gretel’s at times too!!!

At 22, we are faced with MANY different challenges. For one, we are learning that we actually DON’T know everything. We start to notice who our real friends are. We realise that our time and our days are more limited than before, and become wiser with deciding who is worth spending our time and energy on. We also find ourselves letting go of high school friendships that no longer serve us. We no longer sweat the small things and learn that it’s simply OKAY to let go. We teach ourselves how to invest time in meaningful relationships with family and friends. We begin to understand the meaning of support. We learn how to support. We learn that it is okay to take and we learn the importance of giving.

We are all TRYING to be adults, yet don’t quite know how. 22 is a year of becoming a little more selfish in doing things that make you a lot happier, rather than others. We begin to want our own space. Our own places to live. We want to leave the nest. We realise that there’s a lot more to life than the valley and the place that we have grown up in. We realise that we do in fact have wings. We are learning how to spread them. We want to be free. We want to explore. Majority of us want to travel. But we also want to get our lives on track and start building a career.

Oh look!!! The weirdo's are back!!

Oh look!!! The weirdo’s are back!!

We test and push past the limitations of boundaries. This is how we learn. We learn the importance of decision making and the consequences of making the wrong ones. With every decision we make, we learn something, whether it be good or bad. We give the people in our lives many chances, but also take plenty. Every action we take allows us to slowly morph ourselves into who we truly are, but don’t realise it.

We become influenced by the people who we surround ourselves with, but are still trying to figure out WHO exactly forms part of our “favourable crowd”. The truth is, we don’t know where exactly we fit in just yet.

You see, being 22, is in fact the year of the “terrible 2’s”, rather than the preferable well known age of toddlers. Being 22 is the year of opening up doors and learning whether to knock on them politely, or bulldoze them down.

22 is a year of sacrifice. We now know the importance of paying our own bills. We understand more now than ever what it’s like to work for what you have. We learn to FINALLY take the advice we have ignored over and over again, because we have realised that we are in fact growing up. We are all becoming adults.

We learn the value of money. We begin to understand that things don’t just fall onto your plate as they did in high school. We are no longer spoon fed. We are taught that time and effort in a job goes a long way, and results in small jumps of success and rewards. We are all trying to find a way to establish ourselves. We don’t know how, but we are trying.

We learn to teach ourselves the meaning of patience. We invest our time and energy on more meaningful situations. We no longer feel the need to impress the people around us, because we are who we are.

We become more comfortable in our own skin. We accept that we might not actually be a size 2, but rather embrace the fact that we are a comfortable size 10. Who actually cares anyway? We realise that looks aren’t everything. We feel okay to face the world without any make up on. We aren’t embarrassed. We are who we are, remember.

We realise the importance of no longer running after people or empty friendships. We realise that running after people is really a waste of time, and doesn’t quite burn a satisfying amount of calories, mentally.

On some days, we even like to pull faces!!

On some days, we even like to pull faces!!

We experience pain and heartache and teach ourselves how to rise above that. We learn that we might grow apart from people or maybe develop different interests. We begin to think less about the perceptions that the outside world may have of us, because we remind ourselves that we are who we are, and that is enough. We learn to understand the meaning of our own self worth. We learn how to start loving ourselves for who we really are (even though we haven’t quite figured that part out yet).

We come to terms with the fact that Taylor Swifts song “22” will inevitably be our life theme song for the year –and  there’s no way around it! We learn that being “happy, free, confused and lonely at the same time” is in fact a REAL thing. Our emotions and thoughts are continuously running wild while we try to figure out the real world.

Being 22 can sometimes feel lonely. We don’t know where we fit in. We don’t know who our crowd is. Some days, we don’t even know how we like our coffee, nevermind what we want for breakfast!

We may feel as though we are going through a midlife crisis not knowing all of these things. We may also feel that we are lost, but lost in the right direction. We don’t know where the direction is heading, but that’s part of figuring it all out.

We like to explore and be adventurous!!

We like to explore and be adventurous!!

Some days we like to listen to Selena Gomez, other days, Eminem. Sometimes we like to be lazy and take naps, other days we might feel as though we could conquer Mount Everest. We might like our eggs sunny side up on a Monday, but scrambled on a Friday. You see, we are very unpredictable. We even take ourselves by surprise. This is what it’s like to be 22. Everything is up and down.

And sometimes, we like to just be human and relax!!

And sometimes, we like to just be human and relax!!

Basically, we are all a bunch of headless chickens (spring chickens, to be exact), who are running around in circles of emotion, desire and confusion, but we are none the less individuals filled with passion and ambition. Ambition to be the best that we can be.

For all we know, we could be a Glenda. We could be a Brenda. But all we need to remember is that we are not going through a “midlife crisis”, and that none of us are alone.

If we could get through being 13, 16, and 18, our year of 22 will be an absolute breeze!!

CATRICE PRIME AND FINE ANTI-RED BASE REVIEW

Happen to be sporting naughty facial behaviour of permanent redness from old blemishes? (Well, vintage blemishes as I’d like to call them) Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. I do too!! I would consider my face to be a walking Red Riding Hood advert at times. But HEY, suppose we could look at that as an extra bit of “character” if we sport our Positive Percy Pants on along with it, but then again – let’s not be REDiculous!!

I am currently on the prowl to find an anti-red foundation for the situation. The first one that I have tried out has been the Catrice Cosmetics Prime and Fine Anti-red base. So far, it’s been quite lovely!

19370cf0-7dcb-45c9-bf32-f958eba6a2c3

Adopt Catrice for R79.95 from your local Dischem store! She promises to be well behaved and will be very happy, I’m sure!!

This anti-red base is basically a green liquid form of foundation. Why would one even dare putting such a colour on the face, you might ask? Well thank heavens Simple Suzie is here to give us an answer: Basically, the colour green happens to cancel out that unfortunate visual of redness. How delightful!

I have been using this product for about a month and a bit, and I must say, I have had to train myself with how much to use. The first time I tried it; I squirted away and applied too much. I found myself looking a little like Shrek and was highly mortified until I began to understand that using a LITTLE goes a LONG way. Basically, a scene from what should’ve been “How to train your Ogre”. Luckily I have since progressed in learning about how much is enough.

The coverage is great but very sheer. You might need to apply a few more layers than just a single one if you want a fuller coverage – but for me, it works.  Id recommend using a concealer brush for application. Although this Prime and Fine neutralizes redness, it DOES leave a green tinge on your skin once blended in, so DEFINITELY needs to be covered up a little extra with a good concealer, but in my opinion, that’s a given.

My advice would be to use a good primer before applying our new best friend (anti-red base) and to then allow time before adding your concealer, followed by an actual foundation and possibly cover-up powder. Good grief, the layers of effort that we go through in order to look human!! Quite ridonculous if you ask me!!

Catrice loves to be center of attention with her Indy Inglot friends on either side. An example of which primer and foundation i pair my anti-red base with.

There are a few shimmer pigments which to me aren’t too visible, but rather provide a “glow” effect. So don’t worry, a face full of glitter really isn’t in the cards.

I found my colour correcting agent at Dischem for R79.95 for 30ml of joy which looks as though it will be lasting for quite a few months. Bargain!

I hope you are REDy to take the leap, grab yours and give it a go. Let me know what you think of this product.

And remember, there IS and should only be ONE Shrek out there. Be sparing and caring when applying this cover-up to those vintage blemishes.

HOW TO RESUSCITATE YOUR FACE

Oh would you look at that…Summer holidays have come and gone, believe it or not!! After taking a break over the exam and vacation season, I am more than excited to be back at working on my blog and all things fabulous! With that being said, WELCOME BACK to reading your first Booty and Beauty Blog post of 2016!!

I’m not entirely sure about all of you Beautiful Betty’s, but after a month of frolicking about in the sunshine, eating all the wrong, but OH SO DELICIOUS foods (as we tend to do in the holidays) and boogying up a complete and utter storm, ones face tends to lag in looking radiantly gorgeous and begins to sport the feeling of an almost shrivelled prune. NOT so fabulous, if you ask me.

Luckily, I have managed to resuscitate such facial behaviour with a few easy to use and affordable beauty finds. Affordable? Why yes Young Lass, you’ve read correctly!

7bc54908-cbf5-4ef9-aa9e-9f9cefa0cc4b

And here we have Wendy Wipes, Spongebob and Miss Micellar in this family portrait!!

First up is one of my favourites and I am rather sad to have jumped on the band wagon a little late with this one, but HEY, at least I didn’t miss the ride! I am in absolute awe of this product from Garnier. It was only released in South Africa a few months ago and goes by the name of  Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. Sounds angelic, doesn’t it?

7d202619-0d11-4fc8-a38a-c457f5705c59

Miss Micellar looking all minty and fresh!!

This Micellar Water can be used to remove make-up, cleanse and purify your skin without ANY rinsing and can even be used on the entire face, eyes and lips. What a bonus! It is used in the same way as you would do with toner by dashing a splash on a piece of cotton wool and wiping over all facial areas. Basically, it’s a mini face bath. What’s even better about this bottle of magic is that it’s super gentle on the skin and leaves you feeling refreshed and jolly.  Refreshed AND jolly? Quite a talented product if you ask me!!

Pure Active Micellar Water is suitable for sensitive to combination skin. This minty green coloured bottle is superbly big in size (400ml) and has a guarantee of 200 uses! Nothing quite like being large and in charge! A bottle of such bliss can be found at Dischem for R79.95.

206c63fd-0e32-42ba-9a89-7b395cd9c153

Miss Micellar is worth R79.95 at your local Dischem if you’d fancy adopting her!!

Another favourite of mine happens to be 3 in 1 make-up removal cleaning wipes from Pure. These are absolutely fabulous and are perfect for cleansing and refreshing ones face during the super hot Summer days, and to of course remove make-up.  These wipes are enriched with Aloe Vera and have a scent of this kind too. Expect your skin to be left feeling radiantly refreshed and smooth.  A pack of 25 wipes retails for R19.95 at your local Checkers.

b362f357-2590-4f64-88ba-b600e21e61fc

Pure 3 in 1 make-up removal facial wipes for R19.95 at Checkers.

If you are needing a helping hand in the cleansing department, try out my beauty find of Facial Cleansing Sponges from Dischem for R14.95. These are super easy to use to remove make –up and to cleanse. Simply rinse in clear hot water when you are finished using these helpful little gems. Nothing like letting your sponges have a hot bath too, right?

ab49f4cc-cf1c-4732-80ad-51be51b1a1af

So basically, Spongebob has been dissected for an entire R14.95 at Dischem!

Next on the list is none other than a few beautifully hydrating face masks from Mantagne Jeunesse. I have yet to try 2 out of the 3 that I have bought and will be posting my review on these once they have all been put to test. I can’t wait to share my thoughts on these with you. Each of these masks can be bought for R29.95 at Clicks. Totally winning at life right now, aren’t we?

5f31e00f-2c8a-43bd-ada5-d4014a789ff1

An anti-stress heat warming mask, dead sea sheet mask and a hydrating coconut face mask looking happy at R29.95 each from Clicks. Even they are sporting big smiles!!

I hope this post will leave your face feeling happy and refreshed and that you’ll be adding these to your family of skincare products.

Happy, happy face bathing, all you Pretty Petals!!
